Ashnola

Today I visited the Ashnola River valley for the first time. It is about an hour from where I live. It’s a beautiful little river that meanders through a tight valley down a mountain in the Similkameen Valley. I would like to go back when I have a little more time and drive further up the mountain. img_1280-edit-1

Sumac

Went for a little drive this morning and spotted all of this lovely red sumac. I think the Sumac and this old dead tree make a nice composition. It was such a beautiful morning. Love love Fall.img_1060-edit-1img_1062-1

Experimenting

The other day I drove by this scene and thought that maybe I could make a picture out of it. So yesterday evening the clouds were starting to look interesting so I grabbed my camera. I stood quite a ways back from the yellow brush and zoomed in quite a bit so that the scene would be compressed and the bluff in the background would appear larger and closer. It was fun to experiment – not a picture I’d print but it turned out okay. I’m so looking forward to Fall photography. The colours are just starting to change around here. img_1048-edit-edit-1

Starry Night

My friend Brandt & I went out last night with our cameras; first time out together in a while. We were shooting this barn when I heard some noise in the dark. I shone my flashlight and there were about four deer walking our way. They calmly walked across the road from us and went on their way. Then another three or four fawns followed not far behind. Didn’t seem bothered by us at all. This is a vertical panorama – five shots stitched together. img_0984-pano-edit-1

My family and I recently spent 5 wonderful days on the Oregon Coast. We stayed in Lincoln City, which served as a wonderful home base. We spent a day travelling up the coast to Canon Beach, Seaside and made a stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory, which was a lot of fun. We also travelled south down to Florence where we had a fantastic dune buggy ride in the sand dunes. Here are a few landscape shots from our trip. *Click on any picture to enlarge and then click through slideshow.

Oak Bay Sunrise

Got up at 4:45 a.m. today to catch the sun rising. My wife didn’t appreciate the alarm going off that early. She’s funny that way. There weren’t any clouds in the sky to give the sunrise more interest but I tried to make the most of it. I wandered around trying to find some kind of composition. This is the best one I could come up with in this particular location. Coffee quickly followed my photo shoot!IMG_0139-Edit

Holidays

I’ve been looking forward to my holidays for a long time. It’s a much needed break for me and my family. We are in Victoria, BC, one of our favourite places to be. Holidays is when I can shift into a different gear, think different thoughts and take pictures of flowers without having to-do lists in the back of my mind that I should be getting to. I like this flower shot and the soft colours it produced before the harsh morning sun lit it up.IMG_9900-2
